TAIWAN DOG MEAT BAN

It’s such a good news story for all dog and cat lovers around the world to know that our dream to save dogs and cats from the sinful Dog Meat Trade in Asia finally came true.

On April 2017, Taiwan became the first state in Asia to ban the consumption of dog and cat meat officially. The new legislation comes after pressure from animal-activists, animal-welfare group and the people of Taiwan after a series of animal horrible abuse of dogs and cats shocked the public. For example, one of the barbaric animal cruelty cases that led to this change was a case that a man bought several puppies and then brutally beat and stab them to death for his pressure.

Under Taiwan’s new Animal Protection Bill, the penalty for anyone who sells, purchases or eats dogs or cats meat can be fined 50,000 to 250,000 Taiwan dollars (about US$ 1,659-$8,295). And, penalty for animal cruelty or slaughter will face a maximum 2,000,000 Taiwan dollars (about US$ 68,540) and two years in prison.

The government may publicize name and photograph of the offenders too. Moreover, in February 2017, Taiwan’s government also issues a law to ban animal euthanasia too. And, this law is the result of the shocking news that a Taiwanese vet called ‘Chien Chih-cheng’ decided to commit suicide after she is forced to euthanize hundreds of stray dogs.

By the way, even dogs were once widely consumed in Taiwan, but, most Taiwanese people see dogs and cats as pets not food anymore.

Well, this ban of dog meat sale and consumption in Taiwan is the proof that the old saying that “Where there’s a will, there’s a way” is still right. Personally, I think this massive change in Taiwan should be viewed by all of us with hope. Hopefully, with this ban of dog eating law, it’s so clear that we’re going to make something very good come out of it.

First Step To End Dog Eating

Some people may think that it’s impossible to end the ‘Dog Meat Trade’ from the world. But, now, you can see that ‘Nothing is impossible’ because Taiwan already ban the dog meat trade.

At the moment, Hong Kong already banned the slaughter and sale of dog and cat meat but didn’t outlaw the consumption yet. However, sooner or later, with your support, I know that we will be able to end mass slaughter of dogs like ‘Yulin Dog Meat Festival’. And, we will be able to lobby the lawmakers in country like China, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and India to ban the sale and consumption of dog meat just like what we did successfully in Taiwan.

I alone can’t change anything much, but, if we all band together and support those animal-activists and animal-welfare groups who are fighting for the dogs and cats around the world, then we can make a huge impact. And we can help end the barbaric slaughter of these poor fur babies forever.
